The opportunity to give every child in America access to significant computing on a personal basis is here. Putting a palm-sized computer in every student’s hand will enable educators to unleash learning opportunities afforded by this small, but revolutionary technology. These devices are effective in active learning situations, where students ask questions, gather and analyze information, and share results. Most important, handhelds facilitate a collaborative learning environment. TIE member educators have the opportunity to see how students can use them for organization, writing, document sharing, data collection, visualizations, calculating, assessing, and concept mapping. Be prepared to find ideas and activities that you can use tomorrow with your handheld computer.

This website has been developed as source of information for handheld users in education.

Technology & Innovation in Education has provided a series of workshops to enable educators across South Dakota to integrate handheld computers into their curriculum and assessment.

Handheld Pilot Project supported by partnering school districts is an ongoing endeavor to integrate handheld computers into classroom curriculum. The partnering districts develop a project integrating the use of handheld computers into the curriculum, implement assessment methods using the handheld computers, and evaluate the project for future endeavors. Administrators will partner with the instructors in support of this project by implementing the use of assessment tools at the administrative level.
